Home.

Posted on 19:58 by Arlene Lage

We are happily settled in at Amidst the Oaks.  The girls didn't take as long as I thought they would to reach their comfort level!  I think it's because we have been very connected to the house for a long time and they have been there with us through every decision along the way!  We still have quite a bit of mirrors to hang, plants to plant and rugs to buy, but it's a great feeling to finally be at home.  We've only been in the house for 3 weeks, but I think we have achieved what we set out to, because we can feel and see the history almost everywhere we look!  It's a great feeling and my hope is that maybe a few others that have come across our story will also be inspired to incorporate some salvaged pieces into their homes!  Even if you're not building, there are many pieces of furniture and fragments in all different styles that you can make your own!  I'll be the first to admit that I'm NOT a crafty person, but I somehow (with the help of my builder) found a way to incorporate all of these pieces and they look like the belong!  So for now, this is our home, and it's been made of a lot of love and pieces from Texas, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Ohio, France, England, Belgium, Italy and Ireland.
Before and After!  Same spot on the lot year over year.

Got Sod?

Posted on 19:24 by Arlene Lage
Sod went in today!  We obviously didn't realize how much land we have, because we came up way short!

We have the official clearance to move in, so as soon as we drop the kiddos off at school in the morning, bring on the heavy lifting!!!!  We are so excited!!!  There is so much to do, but the plan is to tackle the beds so we have a place to sleep, and then pace ourselves as much as possible!

LaCanche est à la Maison!

Posted on 20:26 by Arlene Lage
It's been almost a year since we visited LaCanche, France and ordered our range.  I can't believe the day is finally here for it to be installed!  We're so anxious to get settled in and finally cook our first meal in our new home!  The countdown is on....

More Reclaimed Goodness!

Posted on 20:15 by Arlene Lage
The reclaimed oak flooring is going down (don't worry, the trees in the backyard are still standing) and we officially have a move in date of September 26th!  At least we hope we do!!!  We're hoping the wood floors will be close to complete by the end of this week and then next up we have drywall repairs, cleaners and paint touch-ups underway!  We're so ready to move in and the girls are beyond excited!
